Point Reyes National Seashore, California — In a northern enclave of this seashore lies the Tule Elk Preserve, where tule elk range from the cliffs of the Pacific to the shores of Tomales Bay in a broad and nearly treeless expanse. California poppies open up in the early light while ravens and red-winged blackbirds play hide-and-seek in the occasional salt-twisted clump of low ground cover. Surf pounds on a distant beach and night wind whistles in the new day.
