Chimney Point, Point Reyes National Seashore, California — From our perch above Drakes Bay, the show begins as the sun lifts behind the distant Bolinas Ridge. To the left, in a sweeping pan, we discover the long surf and wildlife of the bay below. Elephant seals bump chests in the water as they return from their night of hunting. They crawl up onto beach to soak in the early light, seal pups and elders alike. Grazing tule elk wander into a meadow high above the beach. Pink and purple wildflowers blow softly in the foreground as the cries of sea birds join those of elephant seals.
